The Erotica Readers & Writers Association

I need professional help.  There, I said it.

After months of procrastination, I decided to man up and start participating the Erotica Reader & Writers Association “StoryTime” forum.  It’s a place where (aspiring) writers can submit all sorts of content to fellow authors and have their work critiqued.

I decided to submit Mr. Clark’s Assistant as my first piece.  Not only is this story one of my personal favourites, but it’s also one that has been submitted to a couple of anthology publishers without success.  Since I always felt it was a well constructed story (even taking my own bias into account!) with a neat little twist at the end, there must be something missing.

If I get any feedback, I’ll post it in the comment section below…here’s hoping!

I really like your stories, but as a writer myself I find writing in the voice of the opposite sex is extremely hard. Maybe you would have better luck getting your story accepted if you wrote it in the voice of a woman. One thing though; don’t give up!

I just re-read your other story, Mr. Clark’s Assistant-Redux. When you write in your own woman’s voice your writing is very vibrant. Your femininity really comes out.

  3. It turns out that all three authors who’ve given feedback have suggested that the story might work better using past tense. This doesn’t surprise, since I often struggle to keep my tenses correct…I suspect it’s because I think faster than I can get it down on paper… A rewrite might be in order!
